More than 50% of school children in Humboldt County are enrolled in the free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch programs when school is in session, but this food is not available on the weekends. The Backpacks for Kids program has been in operation since 2006 and provides a bag full of nutritious, kid-friendly food every Friday during the school year for local children living at risk for hunger. School teachers and administrators report that children who receive the weekend food packages no longer complain of hunger on Monday mornings and have fewer problems with attendance, concentration and behavior after participating in the Backpacks for Kids program.

The Lost Coast Rotaract is a service club for adults ages 18-30 that meets every Monday to discuss projects and ideas, plan activities and service projects, and get to know other young professionals. The club plans projects to help strengthen our community in Humboldt County, as well as international community.
Lost Coast Rotaract meets every Monday at 6:30 PM at Los Bagels, 410 G Street, Eureka, CA. Interested members are always welcome and encouraged to attend meetings.
Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Eureka, the Lost Coast Rotaract was started in 2010 by founding president Klark Swan. Lost Coast Rotaract has been a driving force in the Eureka and Humboldt community since the very beginning. Members have volunteered time to fundraise and support Humboldt CASA, Backpacks for Kids, Rampart Skate Park, North Coast Rape Crisis Team, Betty Kwan Chinn Outreach, the Jefferson Project, PacOut Green Team, Toys for Tots, and many other charitable organizations.
The Lost Coast Rotaract is comprised of members from diverse backgrounds who share the common goal to give back to the community in which they reside.
